The Assessment Process

1. Initial Contact

Reach out to me via email or via the contact form on my website to inquire about booking in an assessment. Once you confirm you’d like to go ahead, I will send you an invoice for a booking fee of $200, which goes towards your total assessment cost.

2. Intake

I will send you a variety of intake forms and questionnaires for you to complete prior to our first appointment. We will agree on the number of appointments, and will book in our appointment(s) after your $200 booking fee is paid.

3. Clinical Interviews

We will have clinical interview sessions via Zoom. We start with one 1 hour appointment, to discuss any questions or concerns, and so I can ask you additional questions based on your intake forms. If we have time, we will begin the assessment (using either the MIGDAS or DIVA) in this session. We will then have between 1-3 follow up sessions for the assessment. Full payment for the assessment cost is due after we conclude the clinical interview process.

4. Questionnaires

I may send you some additional questionnaires to complete. Additionally, I may ask to send questionnaires to a family member, partner, friend, or someone in your care team to gather additional information to inform the assessment. If I have any further questions, I will follow up with you via email. You are welcome to email me any questions or additional information as well.

5. Report

I will write your report. Typically this takes between 4-6 weeks, and includes interpreting the interview, observations, questionnaires, previous reports, observer reports, and any other information you’ve provided. Comprehensive reports tend to be between 20-30 pages and letters between 3-5 pages.

6. Feedback Session

Before receiving your report, you will need to have paid for the assessment in full. Once the report is finalised, I will reach out to you to schedule a 30-minute feedback session. This is your chance to review the report with me, and to ask any questions. I will send you the report via email after the feedback session.

FAQs

    1. Most clients pay privately, via bank transfer or stored card (card payment accrues additional processing fees).

    2. Private Health Rebates: you may be eligible for a rebate from your private health cover; you will need to contact them directly for details.

    3. NDIS funding: NDIS typically does not fund assessments, unless this is specifically stated in your plan. Please contact an NDIS support for further clarification (support coordinator, local area coordinator, plan manager, etc.)

    4. Individuals under 25 years old can be referred for an Autism assessment by a pediatrician or psychiatrist, which may qualify you for a partial rebate. You are not able to utilise Mental Health Care Plans to fund these assessments.

  • A booking fee of $200 is required to confirm your booking. This is deducted from the total cost of your assessment.

Full payment for your assessment is due by the end of the Zoom interview portion of the assessment, prior to me starting your report. This means that if I am able to complete your report earlier than anticipated, we can schedule our feedback session as soon as we are able to, and we aren't delayed by late payment.

If you are in financial hardship, you are able to pay in up to three installments. However, full payment is due prior to you receiving your report or attending your feedback session. Please email me to discuss this option.

  • Both options will include your diagnosis, recommendations, and summary of the questionnaires utilised.

If you want a brief summary and recommendations for self-identification purposes and you want to keep costs lower, a letter may be your best option. This option is typically insufficient for government agencies. The letter is about 3-5 pages.

If you want an in-depth understanding of your neurodivergent brain and different aspects of self (social, emotional, communication, sensory, etc.), a comprehensive report may be best for you. If you may want to apply to the NDIS, the comprehensive report is recommended (please see the FAQ relating to the NDIS for further information). This report can be between 20-30 pages.

  • Firstly, please note that a diagnosis of ADHD is typically insufficient for NDIS funding.

If you intend to apply for NDIS funding, I recommend you see a clinical psychologist, pediatrician, or a psychiatrist for your assessment. As a registered psychologist, I can conduct formal diagnostic assessments, however, the NDIS requires that single clinician diagnostic reports be completed by a clinical psychologist, pediatrician, or psychiatrist.

There is an option of having your report co-signed by a clinical psychologist, depending on availability. This will incur an additional cost dependent on the time it takes the clinical psychologist to review and co-sign the report.

Even if co-signed by a clinical psychologist, please note that this report alone does not guarantee your acceptance to the NDIS. The NDIS typically require a functional assessment in addition to a formal diagnosis. While I do include psychometrics that assess functional capacity in your report, this may not be enough to determine your suitability in the eyes of the NDIS.

A Functional Capacity Assessment is recommended in addition to a diagnostic assessment report to account for this requirement. This is typically completed by an Occupational Therapist.

If you would like to use your report to apply to the NDIS, please let me know at the beginning of the assessment process. In order to adhere to the NDIS guidelines, I will have to alter the language used in your report. We can discuss this further if you would like to pursue this option.

  • In all honesty, if your goal of an ADHD assessment is to access medication, I recommend you see a psychiatrist, not a psychologist. Although I am able to provide you with an assessment and confirmation of diagnosis if indicated, I cannot prescribe medication.

Some psychiatrists may not accept a psychologist’s diagnosis, and may require their own assessment, which means double the time and cost for you.

If you are looking a more in-depth exploration of your neurotype, an ADHD assessment with a psychologist may be warranted. This may be especially useful for AFAB and female individuals who have more internalised presentations, as they are more often under- or mis-diagnosed.

  • Unfortunately, a phone call is not an appropriate means of conducting this assessment. A portion of the assessment relies on observation, which I can only assess by physically seeing you via Zoom.

  • Yes!

I am able to complete Access Request Forms, which are utilised to apply to the NDIS.

I am also able to complete government forms (i.e. Centrelink), if it is clear that I am the appropriate individual to be completing said form.

The completion of additional forms is not covered in the assessment cost, and will be charged at a fee of $220 per hour.

Important information

  • I cannot guarantee a diagnosis.

  • I cannot guarantee acceptance to the NDIS. If your main goal is to apply to the NDIS, I may suggest an alternative service (see FAQ on NDIS).

  • I cannot see clients who are currently engaged in court or legal matters, as my reports and letters are not intended for medicolegal purposes

  • I want the assessment process to be as accessible as possible! Please let me know if you want a break, drink water/tea/coffee whenever you like, fidget, unmask, wear comfy clothes, have your pet present, have a support person with you, have as much or as little eye contact as you like, stand up, stretch, etc. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to make the process more comfortable.

  • If there is a clinical indication that we will need additional interview hours to complete the assessment, there is an additional charge (billed at $220 per hour). This may be required if you have a more complex presentation or we have to consider many differential diagnoses. You will be notified if this may be the case. These extra hours ensure I complete a thorough and accurate assessment.

  • The initial deposit of $200 is non-refundable if you cancel your first appointment with less than 2 business days notice, or if you decide to end the assessment after the first appointment.
